DIY camera strap

Since I’ve been taking a lot of pictures lately, I thought I’d sew a cute cover for my camera strap! I have just a normal black strap, and I think this an easy way to make it so cute! And I also put interfacing on the inside so it’s extra padding too.

What you’ll need

  • 1/4 yard of decorative fabric
  • 1/4 yard of lining fabric
  • 1/4 yard of interfacing
  • rotary cutter (optional)
  • measuring tape
  • iron
  • scissors
  • sewing machine

Step one

Measure your camera strap. Mine was 3 by 26. I then added one inch to both measurements to leave room to pull it over the strap. And, instead of using two separate pieces of fabric for the outside I just used one big piece of the decorative fabric and folded it over. So, to do that you’ll need to double the size of your width. So mine was 27 by 4 with the extra inch, so I cut the piece of fabric to be 27 by 8. You just give an inch for room and double the width. Then, cut a piece of fabric to line the inside so the interfacing doesn’t rub on your strap. I cut mine an inch smaller on both sides so when I fold it, it won’t stick out.

Then, cut a piece of fabric to line the inside so the interfacing doesn’t rub on your strap. I just used some random fabric that I happened to have since it won’t show. I cut mine an inch smaller on both sides so when I fold it, it won’t stick out.

Next, cut your interfacing to be the same size as your lining fabric. (In my case, the same size as the pink zebra fabric) Then, put your decorative fabric pretty side down, your interfacing on top of that, then your lining fabric pretty side up on top.

Step two

Now, fold all three fabrics in half “hot dog style” and press the crease. Next, open back up the fabric and sew all the way down on the crease line.

Step 3

First, on the two smaller edges, fold down about 1/2 of an inch, press it, and pin it. Second, sew down the fold on both sides. Third, fold it hot dog style again and fold the edges in about 1/2 an inch. Then, press and pin the two folded sides. Lastly, sew the two sides together and that’s it!

The result

That’s it! It’s super easy and doesn’t take long at all. It comes on and off really easy too!
