How to Never Miss a Due Date

There’s nothing worse than working hard on a paper or project and then losing tons of points just because you forgot the due date. Or even worse, not even knowing the assignment existed! One of the most important parts of having any success as a student is to always make your due dates. You also need to give yourself plenty of time in advance to work on the assignment. That’s why I’ll be sharing my all-time favorite ways to stay on top of my due dates.

Tip #1: Your syllabus is to never be ignored

If there is only one thing you take from this post, let it be that your syllabus is unbelievably essential. You should keep this at the front of your binder at all times and it can probably answer just about any question you have about the class. It also has all of the due dates, and how much each assignment is worth. Protect your syllabus with your life, and make sure to actually read it, especially the due dates.

Tip #2: Write all your due dates in your planner

Every Sunday when I sit down to do my weekly spread, the first thing to go in are that week’s due dates. The second thing is reminders to start studying or start working on an assignment if I see one coming up. This ensures I never forget to turn something in, and that I’m not waiting until the last minute to finish something…….most of the time.

Tip #3: Get a wall calendar

Being able to quickly look at what’s coming up next week (or tomorrow) has saved me more than once. At the beginning of the month I pull out all of my syllabus’ and copy down every due date. I put each subject in a different color so I can tell the difference, and I also like to decorate for holidays. IMG_2378

This is what a typical month of assignments looks like for me. I keep it right by my bedroom door so I can’t really leave without seeing it.
